- Custom skins - Add skins through simple YAML files and browse them in a paginated menu.
- Physical skins - Give players skin items that they can drag onto their equipment.
- Skin previews - View a skin before applying it, including skins that are still locked.
- Permissions - Choose which skins each player can use.
- Skin removal - Clear a skin through the menu or use a physical skin remover.
- Custom item integration - Use models from Nexo or ItemsAdder.
Installation
Download the plugin
Download ItemSkins from SpigotMC or BuiltByBit.
Use Java 21 for the current 2.1.x build and a compatible Paper server. Check the download's server requirements when choosing a version.
Upload the plugin and integrations
Put the ItemSkins JAR in your server's plugins folder.
| Plugin | Required |
|---|---|
| PacketEvents | For skin previews |
| Nexo | Only for skins using Nexo items |
| ItemsAdder | Only for skins using ItemsAdder items |
| PlaceholderAPI | Optional, for placeholders in supported text fields |
MDLib is bundled with ItemSkins; you do not need to install it separately.
Restart and configure your skins
Restart the server to generate the configuration. The current build stores its files in plugins/HyanseItemSkins/.
Set up your resource pack, then edit the files in skins/ to match your models. See Creating Skins for an example. Nexo and ItemsAdder examples need matching items from those plugins.
Try a skin
Give yourself the skin's configured permission, hold a single compatible item, and run /skins. Left-click an unlocked skin to apply it, or right-click to preview it.
You can also click another item in your inventory to select it. Use Clear Skin to remove its appearance.
