Configuration
The current build generates its files in plugins/HyanseItemSkins/.
| File | Purpose |
|---|---|
config.yml | General options, messages, aliases, and the skin remover item |
gui.yml | Skin selector title, size, slots, buttons, and menu text |
skins/ | Individual skin definitions |
colors/color-gui.yml | Color picker menu settings |
Use /itemskins reload after editing general settings, the skin selector, or skin files. Restart after changing command aliases or color picker setup.
General options
These are the defaults in config.yml:
options:
remove-skin-no-permission: false
remove-skin-except-physical-skin: false
preview-skin: true
physical-require-permission: true
show-hand-skin: true
debug: false| Option | Description |
|---|---|
remove-skin-no-permission | Remove skins from players who do not have the skin's permission when inventory and gameplay checks run |
remove-skin-except-physical-skin | Exempt skins applied with physical items from that automatic removal |
preview-skin | Allow right-click previews in the menu and from physical skins; needs PacketEvents |
physical-require-permission | Require the skin's permission when using a physical skin |
show-hand-skin | Select the player's held item when opening /skins |
debug | Log extra information while loading skins |
Physical skins without permissions
For consumable skins from crates or rewards, you can let players use physical skins without unlocking that skin in the menu:
options:
physical-require-permission: false
remove-skin-no-permission: true
remove-skin-except-physical-skin: trueUpdate these keys inside your existing options section. The exception keeps physically applied skins from being removed by permission checks. Applying a skin through the menu still requires its permission.
Menus and messages
Edit gui.yml to change skin slots, pagination, the owned-skins filter, and the Clear Skin button. Edit each skin's available-item, unavailable-item, and physical-item for its display name and lore.
General messages and the skin remover appearance are in config.yml. Slimefun items listed under blacklisted-slimefun-items cannot be skinned; use lowercase IDs as shown in the default file.
Common questions
Why does the item still look normal?
Check that the player has accepted the correct resource pack and that the model matches the material and model data in available-item. ItemSkins does not generate resource pack assets. For Nexo or ItemsAdder, confirm that the referenced custom item exists.
Why is a skin locked or missing?
Grant the exact permission from the skin file and select a compatible item in the menu. For a missing skin, check the YAML, the top-level material, and console warnings. Missing integrations or invalid available items can prevent a skin from loading.
Why does preview do nothing?
Install and enable PacketEvents, set options.preview-skin: true, and check the skin's preview-skin section.
Why does a skin disappear after trading the item?
Check remove-skin-no-permission. If enabled, the recipient needs the skin permission unless the physical-skin exception applies.
